Pastels on the Plaza is a fun event every year. When I first came to Arcata years ago as a college student, I never dreamed I’d one day get to be one of the vendors sponsoring a square!
My artist, Trevor Shirk, had taken a photograph of a spring-blooming Trillium in Redwood Park, which he edited in Photoshop to create simpler lines to draw from.
On the morning of the event, we turned out bright and early, crossing our fingers that the rain would hold off for at least a few hours. We got lucky and had a good patch of dry weather from 7am to 2pm that day!
My artist, Trevor Shirk, spent about three hours painting the outline and filling in the detail of the Trillium and Redwood Sorrel plants.
We sat next to the artists doing the Holly Yashi square, Leah and Casey Vaughn, and had a busy and eventful morning.
Here’s what our finished square looked like:
I cropped the photo and had some postcards printed up to send to people as reminder cards when it is time to turn on their irrigation systems and fertilize in early May.
We had a great time at Pastels on the Plaza and will definitely be participating again next year.
